My friend Terry and I went to San Antonio to see
Imperative Reaction and
Psyclon Nine at The Warehouse on September 22nd.
We pretty much just hung out the first day, it was all about Tuesday events, after all. I was going to be getting a tattoo of original artwork from the actual
CLINT CARNEY of
system syn and Imperative Reaction! I asked him several months ago to design me something original based on a few ideas and he did not disappoint! Since he lives in LA, and I just couldn't see myself traveling that far for a tat, I was going to shop around Dallas to see if I could find someone to do justice to his image. I wasn't having much luck when he announced he would be taking his gear on tour with IR. I snapped up the San Antonio date before anyone else had a chance!
Most of the daytime hours were spent waiting on the bands to arrive in San Antonio from Houston. Clint finally called and I went to pick him up and brought him back to my hotel. He worked on the stencil and set up his stuff...

Photos were taken of the whole process and the entire album can be found on my
photobucket. Sorry if the images posted here are kind of large, I was just sick of fucking with them.

Here is the piece after about 24 hours of healing:

Then it was time to get ready for the show:

It seemed kind of amusing that the only female in the room never got to use the mirror! Srsly though, this pic is full of win. All men should wear eyeliner...
I dropped Clint off at the venue and went back to the hotel to get ready for the show. We turned quite a few heads at our elegant, conservative hotel. All the parking valets thought we were really cool, though. (Sidenote: wi-fi at the
Emily Morgan sucks)
When we got to the show, opening act,
Epsilon Zero was already into their set. They were pretty decent from what we heard, and the singer, Jamison Boaz spent a lot of time hanging out, taking pix, etc. with people the rest of the night:

IR went on stage next. According to Clint, IR and Psyclon Nine originally switched off playing first, but P9 made such a mess on the stage, IR preferred to go first so they could keep their equipment clean. I'm almost never happy with set length and this show was no exception. I would have loved for them to play through their entire discography, but you could tell Ted was exhausted.

I've decided I really like Adam Vex. He's very talkative onstage and I think his personality adds alot to their dynamic. Somehow though, I didn't end up with a single photo of him, just the stage shots.
I also didn't end up with any good stage shots of Clint. Usually he's jumping around like some sort of (Anti)Tigger, so everything comes out like a blur (...and then a memory...) with cool hair.

Joe Letz, drummer for Combichrist, filled in for usual IR drummer, Trevor Friedrich, due to injury. Joe has been posting the
Best. Tour. Blog. Ever. on VampireFreaks. You should check out the insanity, lots of bathroom video, lol. Srsly, he is fuckin' crazy (but in a good way).
Psyclon Nine was next, but they are not really my style. However, their stage show was pretty interesting visually. I wonder how much latex they go through on a tour..

After the show, we hung out for a while and took more pix, etc. Never got to see Ted, though. As mentioned before, he was really tired and proceded to crash after their set. I talked some with Joe and Adam and practically everyone wanted to see my tat. My friend, Terry, was taking off the plastic and a random guy was like "OMG, did Clint just do that tat?!?" He took pix and gushed effusively regarding Clint's talent with the gun. I got about a million compliments and a lot of care advice from the very tattooed crowd in attendance.
One week later:Now my back is peeling and itching like a motherfucker, but I am so incredibly happy. Even my extremely conservative sister had to admit that the tat is beautifully done. I can't wait until system syn tours next year so I can get something on my left shoulder.
